Have You Believed A Lie?
By Rev. Charles C. Burnett-Morrow

II Thess.  2:11-12
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness

Some folks enjoy walking according to their own direction, ignoring the way specified by God Himself, which alone is the RIGHT way.  Righteousness means, “to do right.”  Many churches and preachers have for centuries preached a lie, calling it the truth.  Many sincere souls have believed these lies, not knowing any better.  But one must be committed to truth and righteousness, not family, tradition, or “sounds good to me” theology!

Matthew 15:7-9
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Nowhere in God’s Word, the Holy Bible, do we find the words ‘accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour,” or “the sinner’s prayer.”   Yet most churches teach us that this is the way to salvation.  Nowhere in the Bible do we see an example of anyone ever being led in “the sinner’s prayer,” and yet this is how one becomes a child of God according to so many.  Folks, you have been lied to.  Your pastor may have meant well.  Your church may be sincere.  But in the end, they are sincerely WRONG!

Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

To not do the right thing is the exact same as doing the wrong thing.  Knowing the right thing to do makes us immediately responsible for doing the right thing.  And not doing what we know to be right is disobedience and rebellion.

I Samuell  15:22-23a
22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…

James  4:17
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

My friend, the true message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is clearly articulated in the Word of God.  It is both clearly articulated in the example of the early church found in the book of Acts, and it is clearly supported and articulated in the epistles (writings of the Apostles of Jesus Christ).  Peter preached a clear message on the birthday of the Christian church, and this same identical message was then carried to all others who were later to receive the Gospel from the Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Day of Pentecost - The Birthday of the Christian Church

Acts 2:37-39
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

The Samaritans also received the same identical message:

Acts 8:14-17
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God (1), they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (2)) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. (3)

The house of Cornelius, the first of the Gentile converts, also received the identical same message:

Acts 10:44-48
(GENTILES - Which puts to rest the lie that Jesus name baptism was only for the Jews.) 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word (3). 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord (2). Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

And the Gentile converts at Ephesus also received the same identical message!

Acts 19:1-7
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed (1) ? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus (2). 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied (3).

The clear message of the New Testament church of Jesus Christ includes three steps involving
1.)  faith (believe/repent),
2.)  obedience (water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins), and
3.)  submission (yielding to and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit baptism/infilling).

My friend, if you have believed on Jesus Christ, but have not obeyed the clear message as delivered by His hand chosen and personally sent apostles, you are yet lost!  You may know all about Him, but He only knows those who have obeyed His prescribed plan, not one of our own making.

James  2:17-23
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

John  15:14-15
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Mark  16:15-18
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

John  3:5-6
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water (water baptism) and of the Spirit (Holy Ghost baptism), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Martin Luther, father of the Protestant reformation came to the realization that salvation was achieved through faith alone, and NOT BY THE MAN-MADE TRADITIONS AND MANDATES OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.  But to try and stretch this truth so that it nullifies the very specific mandates which God Himself has attached to our faith is to engage in careless folly with our immortal souls.  And now, I ask you, in the words spoken to the newly converted Saul of Tarsus, who was to become the Apostle Paul…

Acts  22:16
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

You Cannot Afford To Believe A Lie!

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Matthew 7:15

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before.
Matthew 24:24-25

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.   2 Peter 2:1-2

Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. Luke  6:26

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.     2 Peter   2:1

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.     1 John   4:1

If you have yet to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, dear friend, I exhort you this hour to hear this simple undiluted message and obey it's call today. Churches that baptize in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins may be found in your community in the phone book under the heading of Apostolic or Pentecostal. You should call that church first and specifically ask them, "Do you baptize in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins?" If they stutter or answer, "No," keep looking. Church organizations which embrace this truth and practice baptism according to the apostles message include:

The United Pentecostal Church (U.P.C.)
The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (P.A.W.)
Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ (A.L.J.C.)
Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith
Bible Way Churches
Apostolic Church Bible Study Page
VARIOUS APOSTOLIC CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, ORGANIZATIONS, RESOURCES, & MORE

And there are others. Please consult the Internet or your local phone directory.
